MellowTraumatic Recordings is now accepting pre-orders for Hannah Fury's new EP Subterfuge. The package includes a six-song CD as well as a DVD of the video for "Carnival Justice (The Gloves Are Off) Part II." We expect to be able to begin shipping the EP on Tuesday, January 17th.

Go to the Boutique to purchase Subterfuge and to peruse Hannah's previous releases. And before you begin this sinewy undertaking, please note that shipping charges are per order, not per item. Thus, you may feel free to shop recklessly and with carefree disregard for the consequences; the shipping charge is the same whether your purse strings shriek in scandalized horror or merely sigh in mild, mirthful exasperation.

For those of you who have not yet listened to the MP3 of "Carnival Justice (The Gloves Are Off) Part II" on Hannah's MySpace page, we are ecstatic to be able to offer it here: "Carnival Justice (The Gloves Are Off) Part II" MP3.

All components of Hannah Fury's Subterfuge EP have been sent to an undisclosed location for mechanical duplication. The MellowTraumatic Boutique will be accepting pre-orders on December 26th, so please do come back then.

We are disappointed that Subterfuge will not be available for the holiday gifting season. However, we must stress that this EP is much more appropriate as a Valentine, and therefore we encourage listeners to consider it in addition to the more traditional boxes of chocolates, red rose bouquets and fancy bottles of wine that they will undoubtedly be distributing on February 14th.

Hannah Fury has finally relinquished the master tapes and cover artwork for her new EP. MellowTraumatic Recordings is now in possession of all the particulars necessary for the final realization of this project. The EP is entitled Subterfuge, and if everything proceeds according to our schedule it will be ready to ship in late December or early January. In addition to "Carnival Justice (The Gloves Are Off) Part II" and four other original compositions, the EP features Hannah's version of "You Showed Me," which was written by Gene Clark and Roger McGuinn of the Byrds and was a top-ten hit for the Turtles in 1969. Accompanying the six-song CD will be an all-region DVD of the video for "Carnival Justice (The Gloves Are Off) Part II," directed by Chris Ohlson.

The mastering of Hannah Fury's new EP has been completed. We can now positively declare that the EP will contain the song and video "Carnival Justice (The Gloves Are Off) Part II" as well as five other songs. The duplication process will be initiated this week.

We must now take a moment to publicly reprimand ourselves for failing to report that Hannah was chosen as Member of the Month on Daniel Johnston's "Rejected Unknown" fan site. The honor was bestowed upon Hannah back in June, but with all of the chaos surrounding her disappearance, we simply forgot to mention it. When we received the news, Hannah was undoubtedly neck-deep in cotton candy and shamefully oblivious to the lovely mention. As for us, we were deeply involved in the investigation, and though we had intended to write a news entry, it regretfully fell into the "to do" pile, yet was never done. When Hannah finally recovered from her "leave of absence," she had this to say: "I was so happy to hear that I'd been chosen as Member of the Month on Daniel's site. It is such an honor. Daniel is unbelievably great, and I've loved his music for so long. He's one of my most enduring inspirations. I don't know of anyone who is more brutally and sweetly honest in their songs. There is no one braver."

To coincide with Hannah being crowned Member of the Month, her recording of Daniel Johnston's "True Love Will Find You in the End" was posted at rejectedunknown.com. Hannah's version of the song was previously available on the now-out-of-print "Meathook" single. You can listen to it here.

We are happy to tell you that the lyrics for "Carnival Justice (The Gloves Are Off) Part II" have been posted in our Lyrics section.

Also, on this very night Hannah is completing the final mastering of the songs for her upcoming EP. MellowTraumatic will soon provide detailed information about pre-ordering.

As promised in last week's news entry, it is with furtive delight (and only a small amount of apprehension) that we disclose the location of the free audio download of "Carnival Justice (The Gloves Are Off) Part II. " Eudora Splinterglass has created a MySpace presence for Hannah Fury, which is the exclusive source of the download for now. If you'd like to hear it, please go to:

http://www.myspace.com/hannahfury

You can be Hannah's friend and/or leave comments, critiques, love letters or hate mail. The choice is yours, as always. And as you can see, Hannah currently has only one friend. His name is Tom, and he is greatly appreciated, though we must tell you that Hannah has accepted his friendship with a certain amount of unease, since he is, in fact, friends with everyone on MySpace. You know the sort — affable enough, but not very selective or loyal when the chips are down. It is indeed our distinct impression that Hannah would like more friends than just this overly-demonstrative Tom character, though she has not actually said so in so many words.

November 14 , 2005

All is going according to schedule, and the official release date of Hannah Fury's upcoming EP will be announced very soon. In the meantime, we have compiled a few stills from the video for "Carnival Justice (The Gloves Are Off) Part II." We hope you will enjoy them.

November 7, 2005

We are very pleased to announce that the final editing of the "Carnival Justice (The Gloves Are Off) Part II" music video has now been completed.

See slates from the video shoot here.

In other fortunate news, we have finally restored the integrity of the MellowTraumatic cybertimespace portal. Faithful visitors will recall that it was ravaged by an unsavory troupe of vandals back in October of 2004. Over the past month, I have rallied unrelentingly in the salt mines with the MellowTraumatic technological defense team in order to secure a safe corridor for the music to travel to listeners. This remediation means that the free MP3 downloads that were previously removed from the portal have now been returned. Please visit our recordings page to enjoy these enduring favorites.

Step Right Up!

As we mentioned last week, Hannah Fury has completed the filming of her first-ever music video. The formidable task of coordinating the whole affair was handled by director Chris Ohlson. The shooting began in the early evening hours of September 19th, and Mr. Ohlson and his agile film crew were forced to endure Hannah's presence until six o'clock the following morning. The video, entitled "Carnival Justice (The Gloves Are Off) Part II," will accompany Hannah's upcoming song of the same name. The song and video are part of an EP which MellowTraumatic Recordings intends to release as a precursor to Hannah's upcoming album. The EP, which will also include five other songs, will be packaged with a DVD of the "Carnival Justice (The Gloves Are Off) Part II" music video.

We can also definitively confirm that Anathema Rose and the Queen of Hearts do in fact appear in the video. Despite being the first foray into "acting" for both, the marionettes gave stunningly expressive performances and (according to witnesses) behaved like old pros. One source mentioned that Anathema Rose in particular seemed to be in her element and may well prove to be a scene-stealer. The Queen of Hearts reportedly spoke to no one, preferring instead to practice her craft in total anonymity.

We will soon have more information about all of the talented people who were involved in making the video.

Anathema Rose and the Queen of Hearts meet with film director Chris Ohlson.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Unbeknownst to many of you, we at MellowTraumatic have been orchestrating an extremely sensitive and covert recovery operation for the better part of the last half-year. The mission was successfully completed at the beginning of September and we are now finally able to break our silence regarding this disturbing ordeal. Due to the many rumors that have been circulating, we would very much like to take this opportunity to reveal what really happened.

It all began at the end of March, 2005, when Hannah Fury simply vanished without a trace. Though we all knew in our hearts that she was missing by design, we could not entirely ignore the possibility that she might have been taken against her will. Therefore, as you will all surely agree, it was imperative that her disappearance be kept a secret for as long as possible. We did not wish to alarm anyone unnecessarily, but we also did not want Hannah to be forced deeper undercover if she had indeed left of her own volition as we suspected .

During the past several months, MellowTraumatic has worked closely with private investigators to bring back our miserable charge, and our suspicions as to the nature of her departure were confirmed in late August when Hannah was finally located working amidst clowns, mentalists and fortune tellers at Scarveil & Scrimling's Circus of Dreams. The outfit -- which proclaims itself to be "The Greatest Show in Heaven and on Earth!" -- is known far and wide to be rather unscrupulous, and we were acutely worried about the potential scandal that could befall MellowTraumatic as a result of Hannah's association with it. Despite its unquestionably shady dealings, the enterprise has managed to avoid being put out of business for the past two hundred years.

According to the owners, Hannah joined their company at the beginning of April, not long after she abandoned her duties at MellowTraumatic. The tip leading to Hannah's eventual discovery and subsequent retrieval came from Mr. Rossguile Bloodless, an independent wax show proprieter working with the circus for the season. When we finally arrived to collect Hannah, we found that, in typical illusionist fashion, the "circus" was really more of a carnival, curiously unassuming and quaint, with a ferris wheel and a few small tents sheltering the "attractions." We found Hannah there, underneath a large shade tree, clearly in a manic state, swirling frothy cotton candy with obsessive recklessness from behind an embellished wooden cart. When she caught sight of us, she attempted to escape -- trailing the shimmery pink confection in fluttering streamers behind her. Fortunately, I was prepared for this and was accompanied by MellowTraumatic security, so she did not get far. Once we had her in custody, I, Kansas Mayhem, being furious with Hannah for wasting precious MellowTraumatic resources, demanded that she explain her desertion. I was promptly treated to a stream of deliberately hurtful obscenities which Hannah could only have learned from the wretched Queen of Hearts -- or, perhaps even more likely, from the carnies themselves. This outrageous tirade was interspersed with weepy mumblings about "holding cotton candy in high regard."

Eventually, through the haze of incoherent rambling, a few facts began to emerge. Apparently, being excruciatingly tormented by misgivings about the filming of her video, Hannah had left quietly on March 21, 2005, without a word to anyone. She had then taken a bus to the county border and from there had hitched a ride with a roughy whom she had allegedly threatened violently until he finally relented and promised her a job. And there, amongst Scarveil & Scrimling's sword swallowers and acrobats, she had existed happily, swathed in her sweet, rosy delusion for most of the summer.

I don't think I need to tell you that I brought the hatchet down HARD. The whole episode attracted an incredulous crowd of onlookers, several of whom seemed to want to come to Hannah's rescue. Well, I would have none of that, and I told them so. I then negotiated with Mr. Scrimling himself for Hannah's contractual release. We shook hands, and that was the end of that foolishness.

The ill-fated runaway was then escorted back to MellowTraumatic headquarters, where she has now, under careful supervision, completed the filming of the dreaded video. We will have more details next week, and will be making weekly news announcements from now on.

March 20, 2005

Loyal Readers,

Please forgive our long and inexcusable absence. We finally have news that should bring some comfort to those individuals who are eagerly awaiting Hannah Fury's next CD. We have it from a very reliable source that Hannah is nearing the final stages of her latest recording project and has almost completed all the vocal tracking. This new work promises to be an intricate and delicate yet terrifying affair, according to our informant. No official release date has been set, and cover art and mixing/mastering are still to be arranged, but Hannah continues to insist that the CD will be released this year, despite several shameful delays and setbacks. This seemingly delusional assertion has indeed been confirmed by Hannah's publicist, Kansas Mayhem, who stated, "Yes, it's true. Hannah has been hard at work after extricating herself from a pit of murky and debilitating despair. Once she got out, she got straight to work in the studio and has now almost finished recording. It shouldn't be long now. "

In related news, the music video starring Anathema Rose and the Queen of Hearts is still in pre-production. The direction of that particular project changed dramatically after Hannah recorded a song that was not originally intended for the CD, but which will now not only appear on the CD but will also be featured in the video. A giddy Anathema Rose was more than willing to speak with us after we agreed to treat her to a cup of coffee. One cup became many, and the more she drank, the more verbose she became. The normally reserved girl insisted that she plans to "kick it hard-core with some spooky dance moves" in Hannah's upcoming video. We at the MellowTraumatic Information Dissemination Portal admit to being intrigued. When asked for comments on the video project, the Queen of Hearts hissed: "Come any closer and I will CUT you!" Thus, we left quietly without extracting an official statement from her.

On another note entirely, we would like to announce that the signed and numbered, limited edition "Meathook" single is almost sold out. Those of you who have been procrastinating on purchasing this vicious confection should delay no longer. Time is of the essence! Seriously, peeps, CD Baby is completely sold out and MellowTraumatic has exactly 12 left.

October 2, 2004

Some loyal visitors may have noticed that the MellowTraumatic Information Dissemination Portal was locked for most of the month of September. It was necessary to conceal the entrance to our fragile world in an effort to thwart a gang of miscreants who seemed hell-bent on misappropriating some of our most treasured valuables. Still, in spite of our best efforts, the ne'er-do-wells managed to abscond with over 8,000 glittering tendrils of cybertimespace. The Ladies of MellowTraumatic sincerely regret any inconvenience, consternation or nervous breakdowns that this unfortunate situation may have caused.

However, all was not abysmal at the MellowTraumatic headquarters. For, half-way through the month, an event so extraordinary occurred that, later, when the Ladies of MellowTraumatic were asked to recount it, they found themselves, for perhaps the first time in their lives, completely at a loss for words. I shall do my best to tell you the story as I remember it.

The day began innocently enough with our charge, Hannah Fury, arriving for her weekly briefing. By 3 o'clock in the afternoon, everyone was quite exhausted, and so retired to their rooms for naps. Hannah took the guest suite, as she always does on her visits. Approximately four and a half hours later, I — Eudora Splinterglass — awoke feeling as if a thick, heavy fog had settled into my skull. I could scarcely lift my head from the soft goosedown pillow upon which it lay. I possessed not a shred of resolve with which to rouse myself. I only wanted to float back to the lulling sounds of my unfinished dreams. Yet somewhere, deep in the recesses of my hazy mind, a shrill alarm began to sound. I pried myself from the languid palm of Sleep and lurched most ungracefully down the stairs and into the kitchen. I had meant to fix myself a strong cup of coffee, but that was quickly forgotten when I came upon the scene before me.

There, and as yet unaware of my presence, was a creature whose delicate, tentative grasp on sanity was all too apparent even to the casual onlooker. Her actions were so strange that I simply could not decipher their purpose, and being a lady of high intellect, and usually in steely command of my mental faculties, I found myself experiencing a great deal of discomfort as a result. That she was up to no good — of that much, at least, I was certain. For there she was, bent furtively over the pink and goldtone antique stove, turning all the knobs and opening and closing the oven door with unrestrained enthusiasm. She placed her head inside the cavernous belly of that porcelained beast and sniffed conspicuously, then giggled, confirming my suspicions that she was indeed in the clutches of a violent dementia and could surely not be trusted. Had I not been so astonished, I might very well have had the good sense to feel fear. Thankfully, I was shielded from that most unpleasant of emotions by my confusion, which, truth be told, caused me almost as much distress.

Then, in one harrowing moment, the hole in my brain stitched itself closed, and it suddenly dawned on me exactly what that miserable girl was doing: She was turning on all of the burners, as well as the oven, without lighting them, so that the toxic fumes would permeate the air and annihilate us all while we slept! Had I not walked in at that very moment, she would have accomplished this grievous end. I felt ashamed of myself for thinking the worst of her, but clearly her intentions were dubious at best. As much as I tried, I could see no reason for her behavior other than to cause fatal harm.

I stood there, dazed and bewildered, but by calling forth all my powers of concentration I was finally able to shake the last strands of slumber and poison from my weary cells. I then spoke sharply to the girl to get her attention. I expected her to be startled, but instead she turned slowly to face me, and with a disarmingly sweet smile she began to speak. She said the words with a lilting, almost singing sarcasm, dragging out my name until it became just an insignificant smear in her pretty red mouth: "You must be Eudooora." I stammered an uneasy "Yes," and I will admit that now I felt it: the sanguine claw of fear grazing the back of my neck in gleeful anticipation. Now I was indeed afraid. Very afraid.

She was so scary. Her teeth were small rounded pearls and her hair was as white as snow. As was her skin, but the crimson flush of her cheeks indicated that an untamed heart beat potently beneath its surface. Her whole body twitched in luminous rage and her dark grey eyes glittered with the temperamental light of terror crossed with anger and sadness. It wasn't just her appearance that frightened me — it was her intensity. The girl was a breathtaking disaster, and I knew that she was not to be trifled with.

She immediately launched into a sinewy tirade of such vicious brutality that I became quite distraught. I was unaccustomed to being spoken to in that way. I am, after all, a refined Lady. I pleaded with her to explain why she was so angry. She shrieked some more and then began sobbing furiously. Through her tears, the details of her trouble began to unfold. Despite my trepidation, I felt compelled to listen. Whether out of compassion or curiosity, I cannot really be sure.

It was evident that the girl felt that Hannah (and the rest of us by association) had gravely wronged her, and it had in fact been her plan to extinguish us. The scheme had been orchestrated with the greatest of care and attention to design, and it gave me chills to think of how close we all had come to meeting such a very tragic end. There was no doubt in my mind that the girl was "touched," as they say. In one last effort at understanding, I implored her to reveal how we had been implicated, and with what evidence. She continued her account, and as I listened further to her tale, the devious crime we were believed to have committed began to emerge. I could see then how things had gotten so dreadfully out of hand, and it was also then that I finally realized who she was.

As we spoke, I ascertained that the girl couldn't comprehend the concept of "acting" — couldn't imagine why anyone would do such a thing. And so, when she had heard (from sources which she steadfastly refused to name) that Hannah was to assume her likeness in an upcoming video, she became hysterical and concluded that Hannah was fiendishly attempting to steal her identity. Assuming she was without legal recourse, she immediately plotted to do away with all of us. To be honest, after what she had told me, I could hardly blame her. It did seem as though proper etiquette would have required Hannah to contact the poor girl and explain the project to her. Though, at the risk of contradicting myself, I must say that one might also theorize that the girl could have done some research on her own, or at the very least given Hannah a chance to defend herself before resorting to such a diabolical form of revenge. But it is a well-known fact that the Queen of Hearts doesn't ask questions; she just rushes in, letting nothing hinder her from piercing her target right through its very center. That is her nature. It's what makes her such a formidable ally and such a devastating foe.

Considering who I was dealing with, I accepted her explanation without reservation. In all honesty, I would have felt foolish arguing with her. Just as I was assuring her that the situation would be remedied, the others arrived downstairs. Before I could prevent her, the Queen ensnarled the rest of them in a web of colorful insults that I cannot, in good taste, repeat here. Hannah was visibly annoyed, as she was the primary object of ridicule, but thanks to my diplomacy and clever arbitration skills, the misunderstanding between her and the Queen was promptly resolved.

And so, with the panic and animosity diffused, everyone withdrew to the basement bar to share cocktails and chocolates, and a calamity of astronomical scale was successfully circumvented. There, after a brief discussion, it was joyously decided that the Queen would have the opportunity to portray herself in the video project. Glasses were raised in a deliciously feverish toast, and thus the would-be assassin was becalmed, appeased, and finally brought into the fold.

And now, without further delay, Ladies and Gentlemen, I humbly introduce you to the newest member of our cast: the Queen of Hearts.

May 6, 2004

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have just received word from our investigative journalist, Mr. Vincent de la Mer. The following is his report, accompanied by extremely rare photographs:

Dear MellowTraumatic,

I have just come back from a short visit with Hannah Fury. I am pleased to announce that she is very close to completing her next album. She continues to refuse to reveal the title of the work, but has told me that she is "at least about 80% done" with the recording. I pleaded with her to give me details such as song titles and so forth, and even accused her of unwarranted evasiveness, but she dismissed me entirely. And frankly, I deemed it unwise to provoke her further. I was allowed to hear a few snippets, and I can attest to the fact that it is very unlike her previous releases though still most definitely Furyesque in feel, perhaps a more fully-realized effort, or perhaps a departure altogether, depending on your view. The little I heard was fraught with both hopeful and violent imagery, and is most assuredly not for the faint of heart. Her loyal listeners will not be disappointed. Please view my photos taken of Hannah's studio environs.

In addition, Hannah has told me that her contribution to The Synthetic Dream Foundation's upcoming album is complete and that the project is now apparently in the mastering phase. The creative force behind TSDF was reportedly so pleased with Hannah's recording that he elected to preserve her mix of the vocal material exactly as it was presented, and even generously allowed her to name the track. Incidentally, listeners will be delighted to know that Hannah wrote lyrics as well as the vocal melody for the piece.

And in the most electrifying news yet, I am deliciously thrilled to introduce you to the exquisite creature pictured below. After an exhaustive search and gruelling audition process, Anathema Rose has been selected to play the role of Hannah Fury in Hannah's first music video project. "Anathema was perfect from the minute she arrived," Hannah reveals. "She walked in, made a brilliant spectacle of herself, and was cast on the spot. There was no point in continuing the auditions. She has absolutely no parallel."

Anathema Rose photo link to Scott Radke web site

This concludes my report for the time being. The interview I promised is still being salvaged. Let this be a warning to you all: Never go ice skating whilst in the possession of the one and only copy of a manuscript, no matter how trivial the subject matter may be. Believe me when I say that I had not previously known such despair was possible. I have paid dearly for my carelessness, yet realize that it could well have been worse. I still feel fortunate that I did not fling myself into the water's depths, as was my inclination, for then I should surely not be writing you today. I shall have the recovered article for you shortly. Perhaps it can be debuted in conjunction with Hannah's new album? Just a thought.

Yours with utmost sincerity,

Vincent

July 27, 2003

Hannah has been asked to contribute vocals to The Synthetic Dream Foundation's upcoming album. The missive requesting her participation arrived a few weeks ago, and a fervent correspondence ensued. Hannah is absolutely delighted to be in collaboration with a lovely, intensely driven and like-minded soul. After hearing the lushly dramatic music composed by TSDF, Hannah immediately committed to singing on two songs. Summer, of The Machine in the Garden, has also been confirmed for the project. The editors of the MellowTraumatic Penny Dreadful will inform readers of developments as soon as more details become available.

In other news, Hannah has signed up via CD Baby to have her songs digitally distributed through iTunes, Rhapsody, and the like. The cost of individual songs is expected to be somewhere around 99 cents.

Work on the new album is finally beginning in earnest! Hannah is currently in the final stages of re-vamping her studio. Our sources have hinted that she will be ensconced there, recording her next collection of songs, within a month. No release date has been set, but we believe an early 2004 release may be possible. "The new album promises to be a Monstrosity in the best sense of the word," reports Kansas Mayhem, Hannah's publicist. In addition, she says that the new project has already been given a title, though Hannah has adamantly refused to reveal anything more specific.

The adorable and exceedingly fabulous Bloodlossgirl has conducted and published the first-ever interview with Hannah Fury (leaving our own Vincent de la Mer — the hapless mope — to wallow in a state of utter denial at having lost the opportunity to claim this accomplishment for himself). Read the interview here:

The upcoming Spring issue is in production and will feature an in-depth interview with Miss Fury conducted by our very own Vincent de la Mer.

THE NEW ALBUM

In other news: Hannah is currently in pre-production for her next album. The final track listing is undetermined at this time, but will most likely be selected from among the 22 new songs which she has written since releasing The Thing That Feels. (Hannah is also considering the possible inclusion of several pre-Soul Poison songs that fit nicely with the new material in terms of theme and aesthetic.)

AN APOLOGY

On a personal note: If Hannah owes you a letter, please allow us to apologize on her behalf. Between writing songs, working her day job and playing hostess to Mr. de la Mer, she simply hasn't had much time to spare. She tries very hard to keep up, and if she has neglected to write, it is purely an oversight that will surely be remedied soon. She has not forgotten you, and we know that she would like to thank you for your kind patience.

Love and appreciation,

Kansas Mayhem
